This recipe would be great to use with our smoked hamburger recipe. They are super fluffy, super fast, and super easy. I made a double batch and made half into hamburger buns and the other half into brat/hot dog buns. They are delicious! Now I have to wonder why I wasn’t making these from the start. I don’t think I can go back to the store bought kind after tasting these. I hope you enjoy.

2 tablespoons active dry yeast
1 cup plus 2 tablespoons warm water (about 110 degrees)
1/3 cup canola oil
1/4 cup sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon salt
3 1/2 cups flour
egg for egg wash
Everything Bagel seasoning for topping
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Combine yeast and water together. Add oil and sugar. Mix well and set aside for 5 minutes. Mixture should be frothy after the 5 minutes, if not your yeast may not be good.
- Beat the egg and add to the yeast mixture. Measure 3 cups of flour into a larger bowl. Pour yeast mixture over the flour and mix until it forms a soft dough. You may need to add up to an additional 1/2 cup of flour depending on the humidity. Once a soft dough forms, turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 3-5 minutes. You can use a stand mixer and dough attachment for this step.
- Immediately after kneading, cut dough into 8 equal pieces and shape into balls. Place on a lined baking sheet (or a lightly greased sheet) and cover with a clean towel. Allow to rest 10 minutes
- Before placing buns in the oven, lightly brush each with an egg wash made from 1 yolk beaten with a tablespoon of water. Sprinkle with Everything Bagel seasoning (or just sesame seeds) and bake for 10 minutes or until a golden brown. Slice and enjoy with your favorite burger or try our smoked hamburger recipe. These also can be made into hot dog buns.
